On Thursday night, LAPD broke up what was termed a “Smash White Supremacy Fun Run” on social media, when a small group of anti-George Zimmerman protesters began jogging through the streets of Westwood wearing signs reading, “END WHITE SUPREMACY.” The plan was to jog through the neighborhood early in the evening, but when they began to run in the street, holding up traffic, police surrounded the protesters. One protester, who was cycling with the runners, was arrested.
“I just feel like it’s the LAPD, and they needed to make another arrest in order to show that these protests can’t be peaceful,” Camille Miller, 26, told the Los Angeles Daily News. “This was peaceful. I know they said to stay on the sidewalk, but he was on a bike.” The LAPD responded to Facebook posting publicizing the event.
