In a nationwide sweep, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) hasfreed 105 children who were victims of sex-trafficking by pimps in the UnitedStates.
In a 72-hour operation,with the assistance of the National Center for Missing and ExploitedChildren (NCMEC), federal agents also arrested 150 pimps in 76 U.S. cities.
The operation was part of a larger FBI effort known as the “Innocence Lost National Initiative.”This program was started in 2003 and has 47 task forces aroundthe nation. To date, the FBI has found and freed approximately 2,700children from sex trafficking.
In 2012, several undercover operatives (myself included) accused an FBI supervisor of ignoring a child who was a victim of sex-trafficking. In that case, a sourcereport identifying a sex trafficking victim as a minor was allegedly altered and the word “minor” was removed, thus releasing the FBI of responsibility to take immediate action to free the minor.
