US Economy Grew 1.7% in Second Quarter

The US economy grew a stronger-than-expected 1.7 percent in the second quarter, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

The figure was well above the 1.1 percent pace estimated on average by analysts. But the department sharply revised the first-quarter figure to 1.1 percent from the prior 1.8 percent reading.
