Liberals Protest Pelosi's Pro-NSA Vote

Liberals in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) district are not happy about her vote last week in favor of continuing the National Security Agency (NSA) spying program. Now they are planning a protest this weekend, claiming she went against her principles.

“Pelosi has let down the large number of her constituents — whether they call themselves, liberal, progressive, conservative, libertarian or whatever — who are appalled by revelations of dragnet NSA surveillance and want it stopped,” said Norman Solomon, co-founder of RootsAction and one of the scheduled speakers.

The protest will be held by her district office and include many speakers who happen to be whistleblowers. Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers, will be a speaker.

The NSA surveillance program collects and stores all phone calls for five years. The government claimed many times they only snoop if a person is suspected of terrorism. An amendment was introduced in the House last week to end the program; Pelosi voted against it, along with 82 other Democrats and 134 Republicans in a 217-205 vote.
