Americans Frustrated with Sign-Up for Obamacare

Problems continued on day two of Obamacare sign-ups.Denise Rathman of Des Moines, who has psoriatic arthritis, said, “It was worse today than it was yesterday.”

Pastor David Berge, who lives with his wife and two children in Shoreview, Minn., tried at least 10 times to create an online account on MNsure, Minnesota’s website for Obamacare.

Sharon Schorr, an accountant from Cleveland said she spent eight hours trying to succeed on the federal exchange website, and finally gave up. She said, “It almost reminded me of going online and trying to buy Springsteen tickets.”

In California, where the ObamaCare site for Covered California hoped to capture the 15% of the U.S. population that is uninsured, the site was closed for repairs overnight and finally restored midmorning Wednesday.

Bill Curtis, chief scientist at CAST, a software quality analysis firm, and director of the Consortium for IT Software Quality, said of the program’s inauguration, “When you are in a rush, you typically make a lot of mistakes and you don’t have time to test them all out,” he said. Drop-down menus for security question for consumers were unavailable.

The federal call center dealing with questions received 190,000 calls.
