Report: New UC Pres. Napolitano Urging CA Gov to Make CA Sanctuary State for Illegals

Janet Napolitano, the former Homeland Security Secretary who is now the president of the University of California system, is reportedly urging California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) to sign a law that would make California a sanctuary state for nearly all illegal immigrants.

On the second day of her job on Wednesday, Napolitano met with UC student leaders, and, according to the Los Angeles Times, Napolitano reportedly told them that she has “urged” Brown to sign the so-called “Trust Act.”

Other prominent Democrats–like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)–have also encouraged Brown to sign Assembly Bill 4, which would “restrict local police from detaining immigrants without serious criminal records for possible deportation.”

One leader with the “UC Multicultural Coalition” told the Times that she urged “Napolitano to publicly support the Trust Act and to take other steps that would lift the fear of deportations.”

As the Huffington Post reported, Napolitano is effectively turning her back on the “Secure Communities” enforcement policies she ushered in when she was the Secretary of Homeland Security.
