Poll: Half of Americans Think Founding Fathers Would See US as Failure

A new Rasmussen Poll confirms that Americans in the Obama Era increasingly believe that his presidency would have been viewed by America’s Founding fathers as a failure. The poll reveals that almost half of voters, 49%,  think that the Founding Fathers would have seen today’s America as a failure. Only 34% believe the Fathers would have viewed the 2013 version of their country a success.

Even with Democrats, only a bare majority, 51% think the Founding Fathers would believe the 2013 United States is a success, while 62% of Republicans and 55% of independents believe the Fathers would see current America as a failure. Only 17% of voters think that the Declaration of Independence’s statement that “governments derive their only just powers from the consent of the governed” is applicable to America today.

In July, a Gallup poll asked a similar question. 71% of its voters felt the Founding Fathers would be disappointed with “the way the United States has turned out.”

Yet in that same Gallup Poll, 85% of voters said they were proud to be Americans.
