Report: American Women Selling Hair, Breast Milk, Eggs to Make Ends Meet

Some American women struggling with the current economy have come up with a solution to their fiscal woes: they’re selling hair, breast milk, and eggs, according to Bloomberg. One such American, April Hare, said, “”I was just trying to find ways to make money, and I remembered Jo from ‘Little Women,’ and she sold her hair. I’ve always had lots of hair, but this is the first time I’ve actually had the idea to sell it because I’m in a really tight jam right now.” She sold her hair on buyandsellhair.com, and also thought about putting her breast milk on the market.

Market researchers say that Google searches for selling hair, eggs, and kidneys have been up dramatically since 2011. Shady Grove Fertility Center in Washington, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania has seen a massive 13 percent increase in women applying to sell their eggs since 2012. A full two thirds of those women said they were selling eggs out of financial need.

Researchers say that those who sell kidneys could make up to $15,200 on the black market.
