Former LA Mayor Villaraigosa Joins USC Faculty

On Friday, the University of Southern California announced it would be hiring former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as a professor of public policy. Dean of the USC Price School of Public Policy Jack H. Knott said, “Throughout his tenure as mayor of the city of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa made significant rogress in policy areas that are critically important to the USC Price School, including transportation and infrastructure development, public safety, port security and the environment.” Villaraigosa also holds a political fellowship at Harvard.

Villaraigosa left the city of Los Angeles with a $1.4 billion deficit, and spent an average of 11 percent of his mayoral time on actual work in 2008. In 2012, Villaraigosa spent 42 percent of his time on the road, 18 percent undefined, 9 percent on personal time, 15 percent on ceremonial work, and 15 percent on actual city business.
