Christie Wins 60% of Vote After Vetoing Planned Parenthood Funding Five Times

New Jersey’s Republican Gov. Chris Christie handily won his re-election bid for governor of New Jersey, with about 60 percent of the vote in his heavily Democrat state. Though there is some tension between Christie and the conservative base, the governor is pro-life and vetoed Planned Parenthood funding five times prior to running for re-election.

Christie decisively won a second term, with 56 percent of women, 45 percent of Hispanics, and 21 percent of black voters backing him. He defeated Democrat Barbara Buono, a female, pro-abortion candidate who, supposedly, is just the right kind of candidate Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and Emily’s List said would win.

As Steven Ertelt at LifeNews observed, “While abortion activists and the media elite claim Republicans can’t win on a pro-life platform… Christie proved them wrong.”

“I stand with you,” on opposing abortion, Christie told a pro-life crowd, and “with each and every one of those precious human lives.”

“What we need to do each and every day is to live our lives in a way that encourages everyone to understand why this cause is so important,” he said. “To show that we respect the life of every human being, and that every human being is one of God’s creatures and deserves the love and respect that God gives to all of us.”

“As long as I have the honor of serving as governor, you will know you will have someone sitting in that office who understands the issue, who appreciates it and will continue to stand up and speak strongly in favor for the protection of every human life in New Jersey,” Christie declared.

Marie Tasy of New Jersey Right to Life said when Christie vetoed another bill that would provide $7.5 million in taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood, “The Governor heard our message loud and clear! Just this afternoon, Governor Christie vetoed the bill, along with other supplemental bills passed this week.”
