A Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday proves beyond any doubt that the rolling ObamaCare debacle is exacting a toll on congressional Democrats that is every bit as devastating as the collapse in Barack Obama’s poll numbers. Less than 45 days ago, Democrats enjoyed a 9 point lead in the generic congressional ballot, 43-34%. Today that number is tied at 39-39%.
This drop hasn’t just wiped out any gains Democrats might have enjoyed after the media pounding the GOP took during the government shutdown. Democrats were ahead on this ballot going all the way back to July, when the GOP was at a 34-39% disadvantage.
It is highly likely that this poll will only further panic congressional Democrats who are already scurrying for cover away from ObamaCare.
On the question of overall job approval, the results are almost equally dismal. Republicans are upside down, 20-73%. Democrats are upside down, 62-30%.
Congressional leaders of both parties are almost equally unpopular.
58 – 26 percent disapproval for House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)
55 – 31 percent disapproval for House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
52 – 27 percent disapproval for Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)
46 – 27 percent disapproval for Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
The left-wing Talking Points Memo adds:
A new Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday showed Democratic momentum all but reversed amid the embarassing fiasco that has been the Obamacare rollout[.] …
The survey signals a dramatic reversal in the aftermath of the shutdown fight, forced by Republicans in an effort to defund the Affordable Care Act, when Democrats held a 9 percentage point (NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey) and 8 percentage point (CNN survey) lead over Republicans on the generic ballot.
ObamaCare might also be damaging Hillary Clinton. Quinnipic shows Chris Christie beating her 43-42%
