Illegal Immigrants at Hackathon Work on Technologies to Push Amnesty

On Wednesday, twenty illegal immigrant “DREAMers” at a 24-hour “Hackathon” organized by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg worked on creating technologies that they can use to promote a pathway to citizenship for themselves and pressure Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform.

Executive Chairman of LinkedIn Reid Hoffman and Dropbox CEO Drew Houston reportedly joined Zuckerberg in Northern California. The three executives are co-founders of the FWD.us group, which has poured millions of dollars into the amnesty fight and sponsored the event.

“I think that this is one of the biggest civil rights issues of our time, and it makes me proud of the community that I’m a part of out here that it was so easy to rally a lot of the leaders to come in and try to support this effort,” Zuckerberg said, according to Inc.com. The “DREAMers” will finish their projects at 5 PM PST on Thursday.

Houston, the Dropbox CEO, also “encouraged the hackers to use technology to get their message to Congress.”
