The craven act of sucker punching an unsuspecting person known as the “knockout game” is being played in cities across the nation. The object of the game is to walk by a person unaware that your intention is to punch him in the face or the back of the head and try to knock the person unconscious with one swift blow. The game has resulted in at least one death and many seriously injured people. The only perpetrators identified thus far have been black teenagers.
Police are now investigating the incidents as possible hate crimes, as several appear to be racially motivated or anti-Semitic. Assaulting a white person is known as “polar bearing,” as whites and polar bears share the same color.
This past September, in upstate New York, a 13-year-old boy unleashed a thump to the head of a 51-year-old man which didn’t quite do the job he intended. However, his buddy had his back and finished the job, landing another blow that resulted in the innocent man bleeding in his brain, from which he later died. The 13-year-old said that he and his friends were playing “knockout.” Both were found guilty of second-degree manslaughter and received 18-month sentences.
In another incident, CBS 2 in New Jersey released video showing a group of teens knocking out unsuspecting 46-year-old Ralph Santiago. He was later found dead, lying against an iron fence with his neck broken.
Another variation of “knockout” is “knockout-a-Jew.” The NYPD has been investigating a rash of one punch assaults on innocent citizens in Jewish communities. On Wednesday, a 12-year-old boy dressed in his traditional Jewish attire was cruelly punched on the side of his face in his neighborhood by a group of five or six teens. As the child lay on the ground, he heard the group congratulating each other: “We got him.”
The Yeshiva World News reported a series of incidents of black males targeting innocent Jewish pedestrians walking on the sidewalks of their communities. Brooklyn City Councilman David Greenfield has offered an award of $1000 for information leading to the suspects of any of the assaults. He said, “The reports of unprovoked attacks on our city’s streets are disturbing, especially since it appears the victims are being targeted simply because they are Jewish. We have come too far to tolerate senseless violent attacks against anyone, let alone on the basis of their religion.”
Thomas Sowell, Hoover Institute and Stanford University economist, claims that the media are only recently addressing this dangerous and deadly behavior by blacks to avoid stirring up racial conflict. Sowell says “knockout” has been played in our cities for years. He remarks, “But most of the media see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil. In such an atmosphere, the evil not only persists but grows. Some in the media, as well as in politics, may think that they are trying to avoid provoking a race war by ignoring or playing down these attacks. But the way to prevent a race war is by stopping these attacks, not trying to sanitize them.”
Furthermore, Sowell contends that not shining a light on the perpetrators is doing black youths a grave disservice. Sweeping the incidents under the rug will result in more innocent victims and more young black men being sent to prison or even execution.
