Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is leading his 2014 primary challenger, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX), by 46 percentage points according to a poll conducted after Stockman entered the race this week.
According to a Wilson Perkins Allen Opinion Research poll that Politico obtained, Cornyn has 50 percent to Stockman’s 6 percent support. The poll found that 39% of voters were undecided.
With less than three months before the primary, Cornyn, the Senate Minority Whip, also has a huge financial advantage over Stockman in a state where millions of dollars are needed to saturate the media market. Cornyn reportedly has a $7 million war chest, while Stockman reportedly had $32,000 in his campaign account at the end of September.
The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percentage points.
