Obamacare Confusion Begins as Hospitals Unable to Verify Healthcare Plans

On Thursday, sick people with Obamacare-purchased insurance plans were crestfallen when hospital staff in Northern Virginia were unable to verify whether their plans were active, reports the Daily Mail.

“They had no idea if my insurance was active or not!” a coughing Maria Galvez told the Daily Mail at the Inova Healthplex facility in Springfield. “It’s not fair–you know, I signed up last week like I was supposed to.”

Galvez added, “The people in there told me that since I didn’t have an insurance card, I would be billed for the whole cost of the x-ray” at a rate of over $500.

Galvez, who purchased a Bronze Obamacare plan for $450 a month, says she never received a bill. Her Obamacare plan brings with it a steep $5,500 per-person deductible.

Another women, whom the Daily Mail describes as an African-American woman named Mary who asked that her last name not be published, left the Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia, after she experienced similar frustrations.

“I had chest pains last night, and they took me in the emergency room. They told me they were going to admit me, but when I told them I hadn’t hear from my insurance company since I signed up, they changed their tune.”

Mary added, “Why is this so complicated? I had my own private insurance last year, but they cancelled me in November. I’m not sure which end is up.”

Six million Americans lost their health insurance plans due to Obamacare after it was learned that President Barack Obama’s promise that “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan” was dubbed the Politifact “Lie of the Year.”

Chicago-based Dr. John Venetos told the Associated Press on Thursday he is seeing “tremendous uncertainty and anxiety” among Obamacare patients who think they’ve enrolled but have no insurance cards.

According to the Wall Street Journal, half of the two million people who selected an Obamacare plan have yet to activate their health coverage by making their first premium payment.
