Number of Americans Who Think Global Warming Is a Myth Increases

The Yale Project on Climate Change Communication has grudgingly acknowledged that a November 2013 poll found that the number of Americans who think global warming is a myth has climbed to 23%, up seven percentage points since April 2013. 

The poll also found that those who believed in global warming remained roughly the same, but those who were undecided dropped six percentage points, leading to the conclusion that many of those who were once vacillating now disbelieve global warming.

Anthony Leiserowitz, the director of the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication, fretted, “People who prior said don’t know are increasingly saying they don’t believe it.”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the chief purveyor of global warming as fact, released a report in September 2013 asserting that it is “extremely likely” that human emissions of greenhouse gases are causing global warming. But 37% of Americans say that nature itself is responsible.

A study published in November 2013 by the Royal Meteorological Society said that talk of a slowdown in global warming is incorrect.

The Yale poll found that 16% of Americans are “alarmed” about global warming, and 15% think the whole idea is a conspiracy theory or a hoax.

To counter the IPCC and their cohorts’ assertions of global warming, a little fact-finding might be helpful, as Prof. Robert M. Carter, Research Professor at James Cook University (Queensland) and the University of Adelaide (South Australia), stated in 2009:

1. Measurements made from weather balloons and satellites showed no atmospheric warming since 1958. 

2. On both annual (1 year) and geological (up to 100,000 year) time scales, changes in atmospheric temperature came before changes in CO2; thus, carbon dioxide couldn’t be the primary forcing agent for temperature increase.

3. The IPCC has a political agenda; Hendrik Tennekes, a retired Director of Research at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, said that “the IPCC review process is fatally flawed” and that “the IPCC wilfully ignores the paradigm shift created by the foremost meteorologist of the twentieth century, Edward Lorenz.”

4. Climate change is a non-linear (chaotic) process.

5. By 2009, average global temperature had not increased since 1995 and had actually fallen between 2002 and 2009.
