Septuagenarian Kills Intruder with Shotgun

A 77-year-old Phoenix, Arizona resident realized someone was in his house in the early morning hours of January 17, retrieved his shotgun, and killed the intruder.

It was the second time in as many days that his home had been targeted by a burglar.

According to Phoenix’s ABC15, police were called to the home at 3:20 a.m., and upon arriving, found 30-year-old William Thomas Mackey dead at the scene. The elderly homeowner said he was awakened by the sounds of Mackey in the home and “he feared for his life.”

The homeowner said he fired one shot and Mackey fell to ground.

According to CBS5, a neighbor knew something had happened because she heard a “boom…then all the dogs just started barking.”

Police do not know if Mackey was the same burglar that targeted the 77-year-old’s residence the day before.
