Rand Paul: Women Winning 'War on Women'

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) told Candy Crowley on CNN’s State of the Union that women are winning the war on women.

Over half of the young people in medical school and dental school are women, law school the same way. I think women are doing very well, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come; and I think some of the victimology and all of this other stuff is trumped up. We don’t get to any good policy by playing some sort of charade that somehow one party doesn’t care about women or one party is not in favor of women advancing.

In 2005, 53% of residents in internal medicine, pediatrics, family practice, and OB-GYN were women. In 2008, 78% of OB-GYN residents were female. Veterinary Practice News published an article in 2010 that stated 78% of veterinary school seats were women, and they outnumbered males within the profession 44,802 to 43,196.

The American Dental Education Association stated in 2010 that 15 of 58 dental schools had 51% female students. In 2012, The Indiana University School of Dentistry announced for the first time in its history a class will have more females than males – the class of 2016 enrolled 60 females and 44 males. The American Dental Association said in 2012-2013 46.9% of predoctoral dental students were female.

The war on women became the spotlight during the week after Mike Huckabee talked about women’s libidos and birth control:

If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it – Let’s take that discussion all across America.
