70-Year-Old Nurse Savagely Beaten by Patient After Removing His Catheter

A 70-year-old nurse, who was described by her co-worker as a “sweet old lady,” was knocked to the floor and beaten repeatedly in the head until she was unconscious. The attacker was the patient for whom she was caring.

On Friday afternoon, Evelyn Lynch was taking out the catheter of 40-year-old Kwincii Jones as she was preparing to discharge him from Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY. Police reported that Jones struck the nurse on the head and kicked her in the face, causing serious injuries. “I actually hear she was a sweet old lady,” a Brookdale employee told CBS 2. “That’s why it’s a little weird to me because I don’t know why it would happen. It’s not like she was mean or anything like that.”

Security took Jones into custody as the  hospital staff hurried to help Lynch. The septuagenarian is in critical condition, with multiple fractures to the face and severe head trauma. According to CBS 2′s Janelle Burrell, the injuries were so devastating that Miss Lynch was transported to the trauma center at Kings County Hospital Center where she was rushed into emergency surgery.

The alleged suspect in the case is facing second-degree assault and attempted murder charges.
