In an interview Thursday with Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, Fusion TV’s Jorge Ramos asked Richards, “When does life start? When does a human being become a human being?”
After Richards initially evaded the question twice by discussing Planned Parenthood’s theme of making sure “women have all their options for health care,” Ramos pressed her.
“Why would it be so controversial for you to say when you think life starts?” he asked her.
“I don’t know that it’s controversial,” Richards finally replied. “I don’t know that it’s really relevant to the conversation. For me, I’m a mother of three children; for me, life began when I delivered them.”
In response to Richards’s interview, pro-life Susan B. Anthony List (SBA-List) president Marjorie Dannenfelser commented, “Cecile Richards’ comments were insensitive and unfeeling to any woman who has ever been pregnant, especially those women who have suffered the pain of miscarriage.”
“This is an example of the problem of getting so wrapped up in the politics of ‘reproductive choice’ that the real experience of pregnant women becomes secondary,” Dannenfelser added. “Richards’ statement misses what most Americans understand about pregnancy, especially women. There are two human beings involved.”
“Even while claiming that the question of when life begins is not ‘really relevant’ to the abortion debate,” Live Action president Lila Rose told Breitbart News, “Abortion CEO Cecile Richards provides a definition that polls show only the most fringe and abortion-obsessed would accept: life begins at birth – and any time before that, it’s fair game to kill the baby.”
“Despite Planned Parenthood’s lies, a mom knows from the moment she sees that positive test that she’s carrying her own precious baby,” Rose continued. “My heart goes out to any child whose mother thinks she wasn’t a human being until she was born – who lives with the knowledge that she could have been ruthlessly dismembered at any time in the first nine months of her life.”
