El Paso County Commissioners Cite 2nd Amendment, Lift Ban on Open Carry in Parks

On March 11th El Paso County Commissioners cited the 2nd Amendment in voting 4-0 to lift a ban on the open carry of firearms in El Paso County parks.

According to The Gazette, “each of the commissioners mentioned their oath to uphold the United States Constitution and the 2nd Amendment.”

Commissioner Darryl Glenn (Dist. 1) said, “We don’t get to cherry pick what provisions of the Constitution to support.” Commissioner Amy Lathen (Dist. 2) added, “It’s extremely important to emphasize the 2nd Amendment is not conditional.”

The lifting of the ban now allows law-abiding citizens to open-carry firearms for protection in El Paso County parks. However, the arms are to be carried for self-defense use only. There is still a ban on haphazard “discharge of guns, fireworks, or explosive [devices] in a county park.”
