In another weekly smoke-and-mirrors address from Barack Obama, the president tried to distract Americans from the Obamacare debacle and the White House’s weak-kneed foreign policy by speaking of his efforts to “strengthen overtime pay protections.”
In words that might leave the vast swaths of unemployed Americans incredulous, the White House released a statement beginning, “While our economy is moving forward…” The statement segued into Obama’s time-honored technique of class warfare, continuing, “…the middle class and those fighting to get into it are still struggling and too many Americans are working harder than ever just to keep up, let alone get ahead.”
The White House did not mention under whose stewardship the economy has triggered massive numbers of unemployed workers, workers who can’t work harder because they are jobless.
Obama himself echoed the White House statement with the class warfare rhetoric, intoning:
While those at the top are doing better than ever, average wages have barely budged. Too many Americans are working harder than ever just to keep up. We’ve got to build an economy that works for everybody, not just a fortunate few.
He also claimed, “Our businesses have created 8.7 million new jobs over the past four years.” Yet as Investors Business Daily reported, there were 6.3 million net new jobs created after Obama’s “recovery” began in June 2009, but if Obama had just equaled the average of the previous ten economic recoveries, that number should have been 13.8 million.
Obama continued:
So we’re going to update those overtime rules to restore that basic principle that if you have to work more, you should be able to earn more. And we’ll do it by consulting workers and businesses, and simplifying the system so it’s easier for everyone.
When Obama talks about “simplifying the system,” look out. Just remember what he said last September about enrolling in Obamacare:
But if you go to HealthCare.gov, you can look and they’ll tell you where to go. They’ll link to your state. Now, this is real simple.
