CT Officials Tell Owners of Unregistered 'Assault Weapons' to Destroy or Turn in Guns

Connecticut government officials are “urging owners of now-illegal ‘assault weapons’ and large capacity ammunition magazines to relinquish them to the police or make them permanently inoperable.”

On February 13th, Breitbart News reported that an estimated 20,000 to 100,000 “assault weapon” owners had failed to comply with Connecticut’s requirement to register their weapons by January 1, 2014. At that time, there was no word on what Connecticut officials would do to enforce compliance–if they would do anything at all.

But according to the Associated Press, Connecticut’s Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection sent out a March 14th letter advising gun owners deliquent on registration to give their weapons to the police or render them non-operational.

Those “who fail to comply face charges of possessing an unregistered assault weapon and/or high capacity magazine.”
