Amnesty Lobbyist Likens U.S. Immigration Laws to Soviet Union

Joe Green, who co-founded the pro-amnesty FWD.us lobbying group with Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, likened America’s immigration policies to the Soviet Union in pressing his case for comprehensive immigration reform and more high-tech visas that would lower the wages of American workers.

Green told Fox Business that he attended a high school with a large number of Hispanic students, some of whom had parents who were deported. He said he remembered thinking, “This doesn’t happen in America. This isn’t the Soviet Union. Peoples’ parents don’t disappear in the middle of the night.”

According to Fox Business, Green works “very closely” with Zuckerberg and thinks there is a “very good chance” amnesty legislation will pass this year, but he still expressed frustration that the millions of dollars his groups have spent have not yielded quick dividends. 

“Silicon Valley is the culture of ‘Why Not?’ D.C. is the culture of ‘Why?’ You’re always going up against institutional forces whereas in Silicon Valley you’re going around them,” he said. “In Silicon Valley, if you don’t like the way something works, you go around it. If you don’t like the taxi system, you build Uber. But you can’t go around Congress. It’s Congress.”

High-tech lobbyists, along with big-business interests like the Chamber of Commerce, want amnesty legislation that will double or even triple the number of visas, even though there is no empirical evidence to support the assertion that the United States is suffering from a shortage of American high-tech workers.
