Ted Cruz: 'Very Optimistic' GOP will "Retire Harry Reid as Majority Leader'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he was “very optimistic” Republicans will win the six seats they need to take control of the Senate after this year’s midterm elections.

“We’re going to retire Harry Reid as Majority Leader,” Cruz said while speaking at the Heritage Foundation’s Resource Bank meeting in New Orleans on Friday.

He said the “most important protector Barack Obama has is Harry Reid because” he “prevents any hearings, any oversight from the Senate.” He added, “Harry Reid shuts down the Senate because he wants a do-nothing Senate,” and he has a lot of power to do that.

If Republicans take control of the Senate, Cruz promises there will be more “meaningful oversight” and more votes on bills previously blocked by Reid.

Cruz also noted that Congress has more power than the president, but only if Congress works together. He blasted Democrats for cheering, as if they were in Alice in Wonderland, when, at this year’s State of the Union, Obama said he would take more power from them by signing executive orders if Congress does not pass the bills he wants.
