When the Supreme Court refused to hear Drake v. Jerejian – a case focused on the scope of the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense – Gun Owners Of America (GOA) said winning the Senate in November is now imperative.
Breitbart News spoke with GOA’s legislative counsel Michael Hammond about the court’s decision: “The decision doesn’t surprise us. When the Heller (2008) decision came down we said it was going to be a 50-year battle.”
Hammond said the decision not to hear the case is a reminder that gun owners “need to win legislative battles rather than rely on an ‘Obamacized’ Supreme Court.” He said, “Obama is working to pack courts around the country as well, so it would also be foolish to rely on them where the Second Amendment is concerned. “
He stressed that “Republicans must gain control of the Senate on November 3rd” or risk entering a time when “the future of the Second Amendment depends on what Justice Anthony Kennedy had for breakfast on a given morning.”
Hammond concluded, “We are telling our members, ‘If you vote for Senators Mark Begich (D-AK), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), and Al Franken (D-MN), you are voting to allow the Senate to pack the courts – including the Supreme Court – with more anti-gun judges.”
