Israel Sending Counter-Terrorism Team to Help Rescue Girls Abducted by Boko Haram

On May 11th, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan accepted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer to send “a team of Israeli counter-terrorism experts to assist in the ongoing search and rescue operations of the girls abducted by Boko Haram.”

Approximately 200 girls were abducted on April 14th when Boko Haram militants stormed a secondary school in Chibok.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, Jonathan said that he “would be pleased to have Israel’s globally-acknowledged anti-terrorism expertise deployed to support [Nigeria’s] ongoing operations” to find and rescue the girls.

Netanyahu “expressed Israel’s total condemnation of the mass abduction” and said that “the team of [Israeli] experts would soon arrive in Nigeria … to intensify the search for the girls.”
