D-Day 70th Anniversary Crowd Cheers for Veterans During Obama's Speech

Elderly World War II veterans pushed themselves out of wheelchairs with the aid of walkers or canes as they stood together to be recognized after President Obama praised their presence at the 70th anniversary commemoration of D-Day.

As the crowd began clapping, one of the veterans signaled with his hands, encouraging his comrades to stand.

The crowd whistled and cheered as veterans stood and a few saluted in response.

During his speech, Obama praised their sacrifice. “They left home barely more than boys and returned home heroes,” Obama said, honoring their humility and strength. “Whenever the world makes you cynical, stop and think of these men,” he said. “Whenever you lose hope, stop and think of these men.”
