Sen. Rand Paul: 'We're Not Going to Get Involved' in Mississippi Senate Primary

Although his father endorsed Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Senate Republican primary, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) explained that he would not endorse either Rep. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) or McDaniel in the race.

But his father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), strongly endorsed McDaniel in a statement released on Monday.

The Senate race in Mississippi has become a battleground against the Republican establishment who encouraged Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) to run for re-election and the insurgent Tea Party, which is strongly backing McDaniel.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’s decision not to take sides in the race is similar to other conservative senators such as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT).

The two candidates are racing to the finish line after the close margin sent the June 5 election to a run-off. Neither candidate earned a 50 percent margin needed for victory.
