Sen. Rand Paul: 'We're Not Going to Get Involved' in Mississippi Senate Primary

Although his father endorsed Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Senate Republican primary, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) explained that he would not endorse either Rep. Thad Cochran or McDaniel in the race.

But his father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), strongly endorsed McDaniel in a statement released on Monday.

The Senate race in Mississippi has become a battleground against the Republican establishment who encouraged Thad Cochran to run for re-election and the insurgent Tea Party, which is strongly backing McDaniel.

Rand Paul’s decision not to take sides in the race is similar to other conservative senators such as Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, and Sen. Mike Lee.

The two candidates are racing to the finish line after the close margin sent the June 5 election to a run-off. Neither candidate earned a 50 percent margin needed for victory.
