Cantor Continues Push for Amnesty for "Kids' After Primary Defeat

A day after he was stunningly ousted in his primary because of his embrace of amnesty legislation, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) continued to push for amnesty for the children of illegal immigrants.

At a Wednesday press conference in which he announced he would step down as Majority Leader on July 31, Cantor said he thought there was “common ground” between Republicans and Democrats on immigration even though he disagreed with President Barack Obama’s “my way or the highway” approach. 

“I would like to see the issue of the kids addressed by those who didn’t break any laws and had come here unbeknownst to them,” Cantor said.

Cantor’s comments were remarkably similar to those he made to a local television station on the Friday before his primary in what has been called an act of campaign malpractice. 

“But I have told the President there are some things that we can work on together,” Cantor said last Friday when asked about what he would do regarding the surge of illegal immigrant children flooding across the border. “We can work on the border security bill together. We can work on things like the kids.”

As Breitbart News has reported, Cantor had previously proclaimed that “one of the great founding principles” of the country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents, which Brat said was “one of the most radical pro-amnesty statements ever delivered by a sitting representative.” During the campaign. Brat blamed Cantor’s words and his support for his “Kids Act,” which would grant amnesty to the children of illegal immigrants, for helping create the humanitarian crisis at the border that Breitbart Texas has been documenting.
