Americans are split on immigration reform, according to a new Rasmussen poll released on Tuesday – but more open to the idea than earlier in the year.
Thirty-one percent are supportive of increasing the number of legal immigrants into the country – if the United States can secure the border. A year ago, only 26 percent of survey respondents indicated that they would like to increase the numbers of legal immigrants.
But 29 percent of Americans say that the United States should actually decrease the level of legal immigration. That number is down nine points from a survey in May, which showed that 38 percent o Americans wanted to decrease legal immigration.
Twenty-nine percent would rather keep the levels of immigration that same as it is now.
The survey of 1,000 Adults nationwide was conducted on June 11-12.
