McCarthy Goes Up With Ad Reminding Constituents He Still Works For Them

House Whip Kevin McCarthy might have been elected to be the the next House majority leader Thursday, but he wants his constituents to know he is there for them.

“I’m in Congress to serve you, first and foremost” McCarthy says in a 30 second ad released Thursday.

Watch:

McCarthy was elected majority leader after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor announced plans to step down in July following his primary defeat last week to a relative unknown. Some have argued Cantor lost due to the fact that he lost touch with his constituents.

“Bakersfield is where I was born and raised. It’s where my high school sweetheart Judy and I are raising our kids. Still in the very first house we bought together,” McCarthy in the spot.

“Being elected Majority Leader was an honor, but the highest honor is serving our community and you,” he says, asserting “my commitment to our common goals has never been stronger.”

Politico reports the ad is running on television.

Republican Study Committee Chairman Steve Scalise was elected Thursday to replace McCarthy as majority whip.
