Rep. Candice Miller Suggests Repealing NAFTA to Punish Mexico for Role in Border Crisis

On Tuesday, Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) suggested that the United States should consider repealing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to punish Mexico for “dishonorably” being “complicit” in allowing illegal immigrant children to come to America.

At a House Homeland Security hearing on the border crisis, Miller said that Mexico is behaving “so badly” and “doing nothing” while children are hopping on so-called “death trains” from Central America that go through Mexico.

“How can we continue to have free and fair trade [with a country] that takes our money and profits from drug cartels?” Miller asked. “We need to reopen, reexamine, and perhaps repeal both NAFTA and CAFTA [Central America Free Trade Agreement],” Miller said.

Miller, who is the Vice Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, said the country needs to “whack” Mexico and Central American nations to let them understand that “they are just not going to keep taking our money.”

“We are not the ATM machine,” she said.

Miller also called for ending aid to Central American countries until they step up and take more actions to prevent illegal immigrant children from flooding across America’s border.
