At Least 27 Shot, 1 Killed in Chicago over Weekend

At least 27 people were shot, one of them fatally, in Chicago over the weekend of June 27 to June 29.

According to NBC Chicago, the lone fatality was “a 42-year-old man shot in the head while riding his bike.” He was shot “just before 9 a.m. Saturday” and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ten other people were shot and wounded during the time that passed between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

These included two people who where shot about noon on Saturday while they sat at a stoplight in a van on North Laramie Avenue, two others who were shot at approximately 5:30 p.m “in a possible drive-by on South Vernon Avenue,” a 24-year-old male was “shot in the buttocks near 78th Street and Bennett Avenue” around 8:30 p.m., and a 27-year-old who was shot on South Wolcott Avenue in another apparent drive-by at 10:30 p.m.

Among the approximately 20 other shooting victims in Chicago was “a teen who was shot just outside [Jesse Jackson’s] Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s headquarters,” which is only “two blocks away from President Barack Obama’s Chicago home.”

On June 26 Breitbart News reported Chicago Aldermen gave the go-ahead to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s gun control plan by a vote of 48-0. Under this plan, gun stores where law-abiding citizens buy weapons for self-defense will be allowed to exist “in only about half of one percent of Chicago’s geographic area.”
