Rand Paul Meets Privately with Mark Zuckerberg

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) reportedly had a private meeting with Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg in Sun Valley, Idaho, at an exclusive technology conference.

Politico reported that Paul had “private sit-downs” with libertarian investor Peter Thiel and Zuckerberg at the annual Allen & Co. gathering.

Zuckerberg has spent millions trying to get Congress to pass comprehensive amnesty legislation that would include an increase in the number of high-tech visas that he and the high-tech industry covet. The Congressional Budget Office determined that that would contribute to lowering the wages of American workers, and numerous scholars and studies have debunked the notion that there is a shortage of American high-tech workers. After a Census report found that “74% of those with a bachelor’s degree in these subjects don’t work in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) jobs,” even mainstream outlets like CBS News concluded the often unexamined notion that there is a shortage of American high-tech workers “is largely a myth.”

Paul, who is gearing up for a 2016 presidential run, has participated in Grover Norquist’s monthly conference call, which is designed to push Congress on amnesty legislation. Paul has previously said all of the country’s illegal immigrants should receive work permits and mentioned that he did not vote for the Senate’s comprehensive amnesty bill because it did not award enough high-tech visas.

President Barack Obama, with the encouragement of Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), has suggested he may give temporary amnesty and work permits to most of the country’s illegal immigrants via unilateral executive actions.
