PAC Launches to Convince Sen. Elizabeth Warren to Run for President

With President Obama singing his swan song as his presidency begins to wind down and so many touting Hillary Clinton as his likely replacement, a group of liberals are hoping to convince left-wing Massachusetts Senator Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) to run against Clinton for the Democrat nomination.

The campaign, sold as “ready for Warren,” an obvious dig at “Ready For Hillary,” was just launched with a Facebook page, a Twitter feed, and a new website featuring a petition urging Warren to run.

During the launch, campaign manager Erica Sagrans told the media, “I think there’s an opportunity for us to convince her if we’re really able to make the case as to why we think she’s the right person.”

Sagrans, who worked for Obama’s re-election campaign, will be joined by the founder of the League of Young Voters, Billy Wimsatt.

Senator Warren’s office, though, is careful to point out that the Senator has no connection to the group and is not supporting their efforts.

Regardless, Sagrans says that supporters of Warren should feel that she is more like Obama than is Clinton and would make a better successor than the former Secretary of State.

“For people like me, who supported Obama and worked on the Obama campaign, we were in a similar situation before. [Clinton] had the money before, she had the support and inevitability, and it didn’t mean she got the nomination,” Sagrans insisted. “I think there’s also just value in having a competitive primary and a chance to have a discussion about what you want to see in a nominee and what the Democratic nominee should look like and their values and who they represent.”

The group plans to make a big push at the upcoming Netroots Nation to convince conference goers that Clinton is not the Democrats’ answer for 2016. But Ready For Clinton will also be at the conference, setting up quite a competition among those who are the most liberal of the liberals.

But while Clinton has her deficits as a candidate, the Massachusetts Senator has troubles of her own. Warren has for years falsely claimed to have native American ancestry. The Senator is also at the very center of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau scandal.

Additionally, Warren, a university professor with little real world experience, also seems to exhibit a rather fanciful idea of how banks and the loan industry might work. The Senator recently backed a plan that would allow the thoroughly bankrupt U.S. Post Office to become a lending agency.

But Ready For Warren may be right about the Senator being a perfect stand in for Obama. She could easily continue onward with Obama’s penchant for class warfare and his constant attacks on “the rich.” For instance, recently Warren claimed that America was “rigged” only for the rich.

She also famously echoed Obama’s “you didn’t build that” claim when in 2011 she insisted that government gave us all we have, saying, “no one in this country got rich on his own.”
