A majority of Americans do not want the Obama administration to dump illegal immigrants in their communities.
According to a Rasmussen Reports poll, 57% of likely U.S. voters “disapprove of housing these illegal immigrants in their state” while only 29% approve. The poll found that 83% of Republicans and 62% of unaffiliated voters opposed, while 52% of Democrats approved.
The survey, which also found that 59% wanted the illegal immigrant children to be deported more quickly, was conducted on July 15-16 and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points. It also found that 83% of Americans were paying attention to the illegal immigration issue “very closely.”
Americans from Maryland to California have been protesting the federal government’s efforts to drop illegal immigrants in their states. In Murrieta, California, residents turned back buses of illegal immigrants who were headed to their community. Federal officials decided not to proceed with their plans to dump illegal immigrants in Westminster, Maryland last weekend after local and state officials — including Democrat Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley — protested.
A Pew Research poll released on Wednesday also found that a majority of Americans want the deportation process accelerated, while a Gallup poll revealed that illegal immigration is the “top problem” facing Americans.
