Protests Held Across US Against Obama's Disastrous Immigration Policies

An activist group known as Make Them Listen has scheduled a two-day protest this weekend to decry the Obama administration’s failed immigration policy, with events to occur all across the country on July 19 and 20.

The organized protest labeled “National Days of Protest against Immigration Reform Amnesty & the Illegal Immigration Surge,” is to include some 300 protests around state capitals. It was the brainchild of Californian Paul Arnold.

“Tens of thousands of unaccompanied children and adults have surged across the U.S. border illegally,” the group’s press release notes, “causing the Obama administration and Congress to finally confront issues of both legal and illegal immigration. Many Americans nationwide have become outraged that proposed solutions to this crisis have centered upon granting amnesty to tens of thousands of unaccompanied adults and minors, all while U.S. unemployment rates continue to soar.”

“Many Americans feel unrepresented in this debate and strongly oppose the granting of amnesties,” Arnold said. “With so many Americans struggling to find work, now is no time to swamp the labor markets by adding even more workers through foreign competition. We are protesting to call attention to this injustice and demand that our president and government stand up for American workers and enforce U.S. immigration laws.”

Arnold worked with dozens of local groups to organize the weekend protests.

One of those groups is in Birmingham, Alabama, where Deanna Frankowski organized a protest on Saturday. Frankowski was interviewed by a skeptical NPR reporter on Saturday morning, as she stood with the protesters. Frankowski pointed out that this immigration surge is a national security crisis, but she also pointed out it is a health crisis.

“This is also national security and a health threat,” the Alabama organizer said. “We’ve got some of our border patrol has gotten pneumonia, we’ve got scabies, chicken pox is coming in here and I believe in California they had to put some children in ICU,” she said.

“I think we’re being lied to by our president, I think we’re being lied to by Congress, and it’s not a Republican, it’s not a Democrat issue. It’s a U.S. citizen issue,” she said.

A full list of the cities and states where protests are being held can be seen at the organization’s website.
