The Obama administration has released 30,340 illegal immigrant juveniles to “sponsors” across the country this year according to a report from the Health and Human Services Department’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
The agency noted that “sponsors are adults who can suitably provide for the child’s physical and mental well-being and have not engaged in any activity that would indicate a potential risk to the child.” ORR admitted that it does not consider the immigration status of the “sponsor” while doing its best to place a child with their parent, relative, or family friend.
The agency claims that all sponsors receive background checks and juveniles with contagious diseases are not released.Since October of last year, there have been nearly 60,000 illegal immigrant children who have been apprehended, and officials expect 150,000 more in the next fiscal year. Texas state Senator Dan Patrick has said that that somewhere between one in five and one in 10 illegal immigrants are actually apprehended.
These numbers are likely to drastically increase as more illegal immigrant children are put through the system. New York, for instance, is expecting 7,000 more illegal immigrant children in the next months, according to the New York Immigration Coalition and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office.
Governors and officials in states like Arizona, Nebraska, and Maine have not been notified before illegal immigrant children were dumped in their states. States that have received more than 1,000 illegal immigrant juveniles this year include: California, Virginia, New York, Texas, Maryland, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Louisiana.
