White House Worried about Possible Obama Impeachment over Immigration

Weeks after former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called for President Barack Obama to be impeached over his lawlessness on illegal immigration, the White House is reportedly taking the possibility of impeachment seriously.

At a Friday Christian Science Monitor breakfast, Dan Pfeiffer, Obama’s senior adviser, reportedly said that Obama was worried about potential impeachment proceedings if he proceeds on enacting executive actions to change as many of the country’s immigration laws as he can. White House domestic policy adviser Cecilia Muñoz has said the timetable for executive actions remains “by the end of summer.”

“I saw a poll today that had a huge portion of the Republican Party base saying they supported impeaching the president. A lot of people in this town laugh that off. I would not discount that possibility,” Pfeiffer said, according to The Hill.

A third of Americans want Obama impeached, according to a new CNN poll, but national polls, including CNN’s, have found that a majority of Republicans believe it is justified. Nearly two-thirds of Republicans favored impeachment in a recent YouGov poll. Palin said that Obama’s lawlessness on illegal immigration, which impacts Americans of all backgrounds and races–including legal immigrants–was the tipping point for her to call for Obama’s impeachment on the pages of Breitbart News.

Palin has since said that the threat of impeachment is making Obama “nervous,” and, as Breitbart News has been reporting, Palin has explicitly said that the Framers believed that impeachable offenses referred to “the abuse or violation of some public trust.” Palin has stated that impeachment was intended to be a check against a lawless executive.

The threat of impeachment has been on Obama’s mind, as well. Reportedly, in a half-joking manner, he recently asked pro-amnesty advocates at the White House, “You’re not going to get me impeached, are you?
