House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) (R) flatly denied that there were any plans to impeach President Obama, adding that the buzz behind the issue was “coming from the president’s own staff.”
Boehner dismissed the impeachment buzz as a ploy by Democrats to rally their supporters and to raise money.
Former Governor Sarah Palin called for Obama’s impeachment in early July, citing the crisis on the Southern border as the “last straw.”
White House Senior Advisor Dan Pfeiffer added fuel to the impeachment chatter on Friday, during a meeting with reporters at the Christian Science Monitor, advising them not to discount the possibility.
The DCCC raised $2.1 million in online donations during the weekend after Pfeiffer’s remarks, according to the Washington Post.
