Joe Carr: Record Early Voting Turnout Proof of Campaign's Momentum

Joe Carr, the Tennessee state representative who is challenging Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) in Thursday’s primary, said the record turnout for early voting shows that he is closing in on Alexander.

Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125, Carr said Alexander does not have a double-digit lead, as his campaign claims, and the race is “very, very, very” close because voters are excited to support someone like Carr who will fight for the rule of law and stand against amnesty in a way Alexander has not.

Carr also blasted Alexander for being absent last Thursday in the Senate when Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) killed the Senate’s border bill with a budget point of order. The bill, which did not preclude President Barack Obama from using federal funds to enact executive actions, died, but Alexander was nowhere to be found.

“He took a powder,” Carr said.

Carr said that Alexander was in favor of amnesty because he agrees with the Chamber of Commerce that “we need oversupply to keep wages down.”

In contrast, Carr said his “highest priority” has always been fighting illegal immigration, which was what got him elected. Carr is the author, architect, and sponsor of every major illegal immigration law that is currently on the books in Tennessee, and he said, if elected to the Senate, he would ensure that the federal government partners with states to enforce immigration laws, instead of treating them like the “red-headed stepchild.”

He also said Obama’s decision to potentially employ executive actions is “lawless because it violates his oath of office that expressly requires him to uphold the Constitution and laws of the land.” And he called out Alexander for holding hands with Senate Democrats while “tyrant Obama” runs “roughshod” over the Constitution and America’s laws. Congress, he asserted, is “the check and balance to the executive branch,” but they are neither checking nor balancing. And he added that Alexander will just enable more of Obama’s lawlessness because he “doesn’t have the fight in him.”

Carr told host and Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon that there was a “huge turnout among voters who had generally stayed away from a primary in Tennessee when the incumbent was up for reelection” because, for the first time ever, they actually have a viable challenger this year.
