La Raza Pres Urges Obama to Expand Temp Amnesty Program

On the second anniversary of President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the President and CEO of La Raza called for Obama to expand the program with another executive amnesty.

Janet Murguia said DACA has been a “resounding success” and enabled “hundreds of thousands of DREAMers to continue pursuing their educational and professional ambitions without the fear of deportation.”

“When the president chose to use his executive authority two years ago, it was in the face of obstinacy from lawmakers in Congress who refused to pass the DREAM Act,” Murguia said. “As the recent shameful set of votes in the House of Representatives indicates, we are again at a similar impasse on Capitol Hill, with these same lawmakers now digging in their heels as opposed to working toward a solution to fix our broken immigration system.”

Murguia said that “now more than ever, we need President Obama to exercise a legitimate use of his executive authority to expand relief and limit senseless deportations in order to keep hardworking aspiring Americans together with their families.”

At this year’s La Raza conference, Murguia said that the road to the White House goes through the Hispanic community.

She also spoke of how chants of “USA” during the Murrieta protests made her angry.

As Breitbart News reported, Murguia said the anti-illegal immigration demonstrators in Murrieta “cloaked their hatred in patriotism” by shouting “‘USA! USA!’ again and again.”

“It made me angry,” she said. “In fact, I was outraged.”

As Breitbart News observed, “Murguia did not say anything about the ‘Viva La Raza!’ chants from pro-amnesty advocates in Murrieta.”

Nearly 600,000 DREAMers have received temporary amnesty under DACA, and the number of illegal immigrants who have been apprehended at the border drastically spiked since Obama enacted DACA two years ago.
