Moms Demand Action Ups Shame Campaign Over Kroger's Refusal To Ban Guns

On September 4, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America upped its shame campaign against Kroger over the grocery chain’s refusal to change its firearm policy and ban the open carry of guns.

Moms Demand launched its campaign against Kroger on August 18. On that day, Fred Meyer Grocery–which is owned by Kroger–said it would not be changing its gun policies and on August 30 Breitbart News reported that Kroger had no plans to change theirs either.

In fact, Kroger released a statement saying: “We know that our customers are passionate on both sides of this issue, and we trust them to be responsible in our stores.”

The Indianapolis Star reports that Moms Demand reacted by “calling Kroger out” for refusing to comply with their demands. Group founder Shannon Watts claims Kroger shows “inconsistency” in that they “prohibit skateboards, [outside] food and…[customers with] a lack of attire from stores,” but not guns.

On September 4 Breitbart News reached out to Kroger’s media relations department to confirm the company’s policy on firearms. They directed us to information containing their “Policy on Carrying Firearms in Stores.” It shows that Kroger’s “long-standing policy” continues to be the simple, proven practice of following “state and local laws” and asking “customers to be respectful of others while shopping.”
