Seven Killed, Twenty-Two Wounded in Chicago Weekend Violence

Over the September 5 weekend, seven Chicagoans were killed and twenty-two wounded in what has become all too typical violence in the Windy City. Most fell victim to shooting incidents, but several people were stabbed, three on Sunday morning.

Friday kicked the weekend off to a bloody start with nine people wounded, two of them stabbed.

In one incident Friday night, a 36-year-old man was stabbed to death in the kitchen of his home on North Mobile Avenue. Then, about six miles away, a 20-year-old man was stabbed in an attempted robbery. He died later at the hospital.

These two weren’t the only stabbings over the weekend. At 2 AM on Sunday morning, a man pulled a knife in Chicago’s Loop business section when two groups of young 20-something men got into a fight on Michigan and Wacker after a night of bar hopping.

Several others were killed over the weekend but by gunshots, one a 64-year-old man who was being robbed.

Among the others murdered, two men were shot and killed in gang violence in less than an hour on Saturday, and a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest in the West Town neighborhood.

An additional twenty-two people were wounded over this dangerous weekend.
