U.S. Park Service on Shanksville Flight 93 Memorial Fire: No Cause Determined

Authorities investigating the destructive fire at the Flight 93, 911 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania are not releasing any further information about the incident, saying that the investigation is “ongoing.”

The mysterious fire that engulfed three outbuildings at the memorial park destroyed several artifacts from the September 11, 2001 terror attack that sent United Airlines Flight 93 into a Shanksville cornfield, killing all aboard.

The U.S. Park Service released a statement on Saturday saying that no initial cause has been determined and the investigation is ongoing.

The Pennsylvania State Police in Somerset warn that a final report on the case could be weeks away.

Authorities also told Breitbart that Trooper Scott Kovach, one of the officers helping to investigate the incident, has been temporarily reassigned to help the State Police track down Eric Frein, the accused murderer of Cpl. Bryon K. Dickson II early in September.

The hunt for Frein is putting a strain on the State Police as more resources are put toward that investigation.

Included in the items lost in the fire is the flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol on Sept. 11, 2001, stored DVDs of the annual commemoration that would have been for sale in the gift shop, items left by families as tribute as well as personal items from some of the victims of the terror attack.

Memorial staffers did save many of the items housed in the storehouse including hundreds of oral histories from victims’ families and an extensive photo collection.

Three buildings were ruined in the fire. Those buildings housed a store house, the memorial park’s staff headquarters, the superintendent’s office, and some conference facilities.

The memorial visitor center and the memorial itself are two miles from the burned complex and were undamaged.
