First Lady Bumbles Candidate Bruce Braley's Name at Support Rally

Michelle Obama hit the campaign trail for Iowa Senate Democrat candidate Bruce Braley on Saturday, but her rally speech wasn’t as effective as she had hoped as the first lady mispronounced the candidate’s name seven times.

During her stump speech urging Iowa voters to support Bruce Braley, the first lady called the candidate “Bailey” and seven times, despite the hall being festooned with “Braley for Senate” signs.

Eventually someone in the crowd yelled out to correct Obama.

“Braley?” Michelle said confused. “What did I say? I’m losing it. I’m getting old.”

Michelle Obama is in familiar company: in September, Bill Clinton also called the Iowan “Bailey” when he was stumping for the candidate at Senator Tom Harken’s annual steak fry fundraiser.

Braley doesn’t need this sort of foolishness. In his race with Republican Joni Ernst, Braley has been slightly behind in the polls for months.
