Poll: 84 Percent See Gun Violence as Criminal Action, Not Public Health Issue

On October 9, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) released the results of a scientific poll showing an overwhelming majority of Americans–84 percent–believe “gun violence” is a criminal action, not a public health issue.

This news comes as Democrats, including President Obama, are pushing to shift gun crime into the realm of public health to use administrative edicts and laws to circumvent the Second Amendment.

According to NSSF, 84% of poll respondents believe the solution to gun violence is “criminal justice,” not treatment similar to that which “viruses” receive. Moreover, 88% of respondents believe the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) should not even “spend resources studying the use of guns in crime.” They believe that those resources should be spent studying such things as diseases and epidemics instead.

Perhaps the worst news in the poll for gun control candidates is that respondents were nearly equally divided between Republican, Democrat, and independent–with Democrats having the largest representation. Specifically, respondents were 38% Democrat, 33% Republican, and 30% independent.

Harper Polling conducted the poll for NSSF from September 30-October 2.
