Democratic Party Abandons Ad Buys for Alison Lundergan Grimes

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) tells The Hill it will suspend buying ads to support Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes’ bid to unseat Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). 

“The DSCC has now spent more than $2 million in Kentucky and continues to make targeted investments in the ground game while monitoring the race for future investments, but it currently is not on the air in Kentucky,” said a DSCC staff member. 

Grimes’ campaign has cratered in the wake of her refusal to answer reporters’ questions about whether she voted for President Barack Obama. NBC’s Chuck Todd said Grimes’ refusal to answer the question “disqualified her” from the race.

During Monday’s debate, Grimes once again refused to tell Kentucky voters whom she supported for president. 

“I’m not going to compromise a constitutional right provided here in Kentucky in order to curry favor on one or another side,” said Grimes. 

Republicans’ widening electoral landscape has forced the Democratic Party to pull advertising funds in other states as well. On Tuesday, the Associated Press reported that the Democratic Party has yanked $2.8 million in campaign spending in northern Virginia and cut $1.4 million in spending in Denver, Colorado.
