Jeb Bush: GOP Must Work with Dems on Amnesty if Republicans Control Congress

On Monday in Michigan, former Florida Governor and potential 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush again said Republicans need to pass comprehensive immigration legislation if they control Congress.

Republicans may win the Senate in November as President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty and actions on illegal immigration become increasingly unpopular. Even GOP candidates like Scott Brown in blue states have closed the gap by focusing on illegal immigration. But, like he did while stumping for Republican North Carolina Senate candidate Thom Tillis, that did not stop Bush from insisting that Republicans work with Democrats on immigration during his campaign stop with Republican Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land.

“Republicans need to get into power to show that we can govern by passing budgets and by working across the aisle to find solutions to immigration, to energy, to regulations, to entitlements,” Bush said, according to the Lansing State Journal.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Republican establishment leaders have also indicated that they would like to move on comprehensive immigration legislation if the GOP ends up controlling Congress after the midterms. Boehner, who has a close relationship with potential Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), has even said that he can “absolutely” get House Republicans to get on board to pass an immigration bill if Republicans control Congress next year.
